Vigo County YMCA and CASY Partner on 2019-2020 SACC Program!
After a year filled with change, the Vigo County YMCA is celebrating another successful transition as the organization heads into the 2019-2020 school year with a new partnership. The Y and CASY (Chances And Services for Youth) will be presenting a collaborative before and after school care (SACC) program for families in the Vigo County School Corporation (VCSC).
“We are excited to partner with CASY on the SACC program this year,” commented Ryan Penrod, CEO of the YMCA of the Wabash Valley. “Our goal is to provide affordable care to families in the VCSC who need a safe place for children before and after school.”
The program will provide a safe place for students to receive help on homework, outdoor play, enrichment and physical activity. The program will be based off of the Vigo County Pacing Guide from the 21stCentury Program, designed to help students from all economic backgrounds in the community succeed.
“We look forward to partnering with the YMCA to provide before and after school care for students from our neighborhood schools,” said Karen Harding, CEO of Chances And Services of Youth. “We know firsthand that this program can help improve children’s grades, keep kids safe, benefit working families, and have a positive effect on the entire community.”
The program will be available to all schools in the area from 6:30am to school start time, and after school gets out until 6:00pm. There will be changes to the program this year as a way to better accommodate families. Locations in the program that did not meet attendance requirements last year will now be grouped together at hub schools.
“The reason behind the hub school locations is to provide families in the smaller populated schools the opportunity to still take part in the program,” commented Penrod. “By combining these schools, the Y can still afford to host students from every school in the Vigo County School Corporation.”
Hub sites were chosen due to their proximity to the surrounding schools. The three hub sites include:
- Sugar Creek Elementary, which will also host West Vigo Elementary
- Meadows Elementary, which will also host Davis Park Elementary, Deming Elementary and Franklin Elementary
- CASY will host Farrington Grove Elementary, Sugar Grove Elementary and Fuqua Elementary
Transportation to the hub sites will be provided by the school buses. Parents will need to drop off and pick up students at the hub sites if their child is in one of the schools listed above.
The remaining schools in the Vigo County School Corporation will continue to serve as host sites for the program. Registration for the new program will open on July 9that the YMCA. Registration will be available at the Y or online at www.ymcaswv.orgunder the Vigo County YMCA Youth Services tab.
Before or after school care for preschool students will not be permitted. The Y will continue to offer scholarships up to 50% for families who qualify. Payment options for families will be offered on a weekly, semester, or yearly opportunity. Any questions can be addressed by calling 812-232-8446.
