OTHER WAYS TO SUPPORT US
ONE Y FOR ALL
Everyone knows the YMCA has a pool and a gym. But what they may not know is that we have a purpose that’s deeper than any pool.
Everything we do, every program we facilitate, every partnership we form, every life we touch, is another step we take in addressing our community’s most critical needs. It might be said that what we do outside our walls is the best kept secret around, but let it be a secret no more.
We are changing lives through feeding programs, enrichment activities, social groups, volunteer opportunities, young adult programs, senior activities and community partnerships.
As one of the nation’s largest, and oldest non-profit organizations, none of this would be possible without financial support from you and your neighbors. Together we can continue to learn, grow and thrive.
The Y was built by and for our community. This is Y we do what we do. We have an extra ordinary opportunity to ensure a brighter future for the Wabash Valley—but we must take action today, and your support will make it possible. When you make a donation to the YMCA Annual Campaign, your generosity makes the Wabash Valley community better through programs focused on:
Youth Development
All kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve, under the guidance of caring adults who believe in their potential.
Healthy Living
We help people and families build and maintain healthy habits for spirit, mind and body in their everyday lives. By helping kids, adults, families and seniors from all walks of life improve their health and well-being, we build a stronger community.
Social Responsibility
With our doors open to all, we bring together people from all backgrounds, and support those who need us most. We take on the most urgent needs in our community and inspire a spirit of service in return. We all demonstrate the power of what we can achieve by giving back together.

Clay Youth Food Program
The Clay County community has been helping to provide area youth with food and water since the summer of 2013. A group of volunteers in the education industry noticed several children who experienced weight loss over the summer. They wanted to help. The program initially served a little over 100 children each week. Now, during the summer months, the volunteers at First Baptist Church in Brazil see over 500 children stop by for food, water and support.
In the summer of 2013, the Clay County YMCA was able to offer free lunches to children through donations and community funding. However, nobody showed, so the Y collaborated with First Baptist Church and offered the food at the church. Still no one brought the children to eat, so First Baptist Church loaded up the lunches and started delivering. The Youth Food Summer Program was born.
The Clay County Youth Food Program served 24,318 meals to families in need in 2017. They have a regular group of volunteers for both Programs.
Those interested in volunteering have the opportunity to pack for the School on Wednesday evenings, or on weekdays from 10 am to 1:30 pm during the summer. Terry and the other lead volunteers are available via Facebook at Clay County Youth Food Program, and email clayyouthfoodprogram@gmail.com. Phone messages can also be left at the Clay County YMCA at 812-442-6761.
Donations to the YMCA Annual Campaign help us to support this wonderful program.
